This will be a winter to remember. Yet, we have the good fortune to get food at the local grocery store and stay inside to keep warm. The ice, snow, cold temperatures, and high winds make difficult for wildlife foraging for food. Activity at the bird feeders has been brisk, including the feeders at our local park.

Fortunately for me, a peanut feeder was hung in this crabapple tree before the Christmas eve ice storm and the birds were accustomed to it. I photographed this uncommon winter resident, a Red-breasted Nuthatch, as it made its way down to the feeder.
