Winter sure has made its presence known here in Iowa; definitely a white Christmas this year. Activity around the bird feeders has been fast and furious.

When frost coats the trees, I head to Swan Lake State Park, specifically to the Trumpeter Swan pen.
The Trumpeter Swans are part of a state-wide reintroduction program and are kept penned up year-round. They are well fed via a special feeder. Other park critters are also well fed by the spillage. Raccoons, Muskrats, and songbirds partake in the spilled grains. Where there is food, there are photo subjects. The frost-coated branches add visual appeal. |
